The gallery is pleased to show the recent works of Djakou Kassi Nathalie, Ejiro Fenegal, Chidimma Nwafor, Elizabeth C. Ekpetorson, Almat Adams, Boluwatife Victoria Lawal, Adebimpe Owoyemi, Ganiyat Abdulazeez, in a group exhibition titled “Nudus”—an exhibition of paintings, sculptures and ceramics sculptures. “Nudus” is a Latin word for naked, a state of destitute and deprivation. A void that needs a substance, substance that each artist has interpreted in their different contents and expressions, with different styles and techniques. The selection of a particular gender for this show is deliberate, women tend to bring more life to the void. Their art is very expressive, full of depth and emotions, emotions that can be well directed to addressing issues untouched and unspoken.

Djakou Kassi Nathalie is a Cameroonian ceramicist who has worked with many renowned artists and obtained many distinctions, awards, and prizes in and out of Cameroon. A renowned ceramicist and instructor.

Ejiro Fenegal is a sculptor from Ughelli South, Delta State. She meticulously crafts figurative sculptures that delve into the complexities of the human condition and symbolize the metaphorical prison that ensnares the mind. Ejiro firmly believes that constraining emotions like fear, doubt, weakness, and hate are detrimental to one’s existence.

Chidimma Nwafor is a Nigerian visual artist born in Anambra, Nigeria. Her paintings address the complexities of life, with a particular focus on the burdens, expectations,andstrugglesassociatedwiththegirlchild. Shecapturesthesubtle bodily and facial expressions that reveal the complexities of human emotion, employing the medium of oil paint to imbue her creations with depth and emotion.

Elizabeth C. Ekpetorson is a visual artist from Nigeria. Elizabeth Ekpetorson is a painter and draughtsman. Their figurative work body is about self-acceptance and other subject matters catalyzed by swift responses to creative impulses on human issues. Their works draw attention to self-acceptance: embracing one’s self unconditionally, without fear or exception.

Almat Adams is a graduate of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. Her works explore her love for beauty, uniformity, genuine human emotions, culturalnarratives,andhowtheyaffectpeople. Afigurativepainterwithprofound draftsmanship and subtle gradation of light and shade.

Boluwatife Victoria Lawal is a contemporary Nigerian artist hailing from Ibadan. She works predominantly in acrylics on canvas, where she masterfully crafts intimate and conjoined portraits of people of colour in swirls of evocative, vibrant colors. Her practice is a focus on social construct and the intersectionality of identity, race, and gender.

Adebimpe Owoyemi is a graduate of the University of Benin and holds her BA and MFA from the same institution. She is currently working on a project to create figurative paintings graced in Aso Oke—an idea to foster and promote our identity and culture. The infusion of aso oke in her paintings, goes beyond aesthetics, it exudes fashion statements that are timeless yet native in content. Each pattern, colour, line, and style tell a different story.

Ganiyat Abdulazeez explores a diversity of media spanning pastels, graphites, charcoal, watercolors, acrylics, and oils (her most favored). In her recent works, she incorporates a distinctive floral motif – believed to have a deep connection with her childhood and people’s experiences in her portraits. This occurring phenomenon in her works is called coral plant (Jatropha Multifida) and clover leaf.

The gallery is also pleased to announce its partnership with “Little Sisters of the Poor”, an NGO that offers the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be cared for to the end of their lives, by contributing part of the exhibition proceed to the course.
