Curator's statement

Fate X shows the works of seven artists, Ibrahim Afegbua, Aluu Prosper, Clement Nwafor. Ibrahim Shaffi, Olalekan David, Adeyemi Adewale, and Arinze Stephen E. These works cut across different styles, mediums, and creative expressions.

Ibrahim Afegbua is showing 4 works from different series. Ibrahim is a multi-media artist, a sculptor who manipulates binding wires to create desired shapes and forms. One of his works is titled ‘Amaria’ meaning the bride, from the Northern part of Nigeria. Ibrahim unveils the beauty in women’s hairstyle generally, but he literarily unveils the beauty in this work, as the carefully styled hair of a Northern Nigeria bride is usually covered. Some of his other works on display today are ‘Fashionista’, ‘Irunkiko’, and ‘Merit’, every work with its deep connection unavailing women’s beauty through their delicate hairstyles.

Aluu Prosper paints his diary expressively, using collage in an abstract form. He uses newsprint as a form of preserving culture and data, keeping the stories relevant. His works are very expressive and personal. One of his works titled ‘Green’ expresses the personal connection he had with the character of the painting at a point in his life, an awareness and deep connection between the artiste and the artist. Each technique, that is, the abstraction and collage, serves its purpose in his body of works. On display also are ‘The Night It Fell Apart’ and ‘The Avid Dreamer’

Ibrahim Shaffi fantasized about and explored cartoons as a kid. This past fondness is reflected in his painting, giving a funky feeling to his figurative expressions. One of his works titled

‘Enslaved Royalty’ describes the reality of colonization in Africa. His second work on display is titled ‘Not Red, Not Indians’, which means, not Red, not Indians, just Humans!

Clement uses collage elements like fabric to enhance his striking figurative paintings. ‘Enchanting Oases’ i and ii are his works on display today. The painting is simply therapeutic! Display of elegance and grace, delightfully expressing peace and life.

Olalekan’s works are expressed figuratively, depicting women in their elegance, tenderness, and free state. The figure has an engaging appearance that provokes thoughts in its audience. Two of his works on display are titled ‘The Home Girl’ and ‘Fruits’.

Adeyemi Adewale paints people using lines, forms, and colour to communicate the human condition, character, and spirituality. He is showing two works, one of which is titled ‘Not so Perfect Gentlemen’. His works are very captivating and thought-provoking!

Arinze Stephen is a contemporary artist who promotes African culture through his unique realistic figurative expressions. One of his works titled ‘Queen of Essence’ captured the beauty of the African woman, her timeless beauty with the harmonious blend of grace and cultural richness. The second work is titled ‘Golden Radiance’.

Connect with these works as you engage with the openness to be educated and taken on a journey through the artist’s thoughts and artistic intentions.

Welcome to FATE X!
